NRCS to conduct strip-till demonstration
BILLINGS, Mont. - -The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be conducting a Strip Till Equipment demonstration and seminar on March 19 at the Bruce Markegard Farm four miles west of Laurel off of Old Highway 10.
The seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Speakers will be Bill Iverson, USDA-ARS of Sidney, Mont., Michael Peterson of Orthman Agriculture and Dave Zimmer of Schlagel Manufacturing. They will present information on current strip tillage research, equipment, methods and problems. There will also be a producer panel to discuss their experiences with changing to strip till farming.
The purpose of this seminar is to demonstrate reduced tillage on irrigation systems and show the benefits to soil health and soil moisture. Strip till farming reduces soil erosion and also offers substantial reductions of fuel and labor inputs. Equipment dealers will be demonstrating this new technology in the field.
NRCS may be able to provide financial assistance to interested producers who are willing to transition to reduced tillage farming. Please attend for more information.
The seminar is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Valerie Robertson at the Billings NRCS office 406-657-6135 ext. 115 or Jodi Hastings at the Hardin, Mont., NRCS office 406-665-3442 ext 101.
