MSU to deciate new ag buildings on Aug. 18
BOZEMAN, Mont. - A naming ceremony for Montana State University's new state-of-the-art infectious disease research laboratory and large animal research facility will take place just west of the Marsh Laboratory at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18 on Lincoln Avenue and South 19th Avenue.
Two former MSU administrators who played major roles in the development of a wide spectrum of research activity at the university will present remarks, along with MSU President Geoff Gamble, Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer Tom McCoy, and Department Head of Veterinary Molecular Biology Mark Quinn.
The Jutila Research Laboratory is an infectious disease research facility which provides the opportunity to safely work on highly contagious pathogens, such as the causative agent of brucellosis. The building is being named in honor of Dr. John Jutila, whose distinguished and highly-influential career at MSU in the fields of medicine, immunology and microbiology began in 1961 and spanned over 30 years. Jutila will speak as the guest of honor for the naming of the laboratory.
The Johnson Family Livestock Facility is a large animal research center supporting modern veterinary research. The building is being named in honor of Pearl, Grace and Isabelle Johnson, of Stillwater County, who each left their shares of stock in the Albert Johnson Land Company upon their deaths to support veterinary research at MSU. The investment of the Johnson Family Foundation holdings has made possible the development of this state-of-the-art facility.
Tietz, who came to MSU in 1977 with a background in veterinary science, contributed greatly to MSU's preeminence as a top-tier research institution during his 13 years as president. He will speak as the guest of honor for the naming of the Johnson Family Livestock Facility.
The public event will be held in front of the Jutila Research Laboratory, just behind the Marsh Laboratory. Sign unveilings and light refreshments will follow.
