Montana students receive regional Farm Bureau scholarships

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Montana students received scholarships from regional Farm Bureau organizations across the state:

Ross Eklund, a pharmacy student at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont., has been awarded the $500 Bernard Greufe Honor Scholarship. Eklund, who graduated from Saco High School in 2003, has worked throughout college for the Fifth Avenue Pharmacy and the SaveOn Pharmacy. He has been involved with Caring for Kids, Aim Higher Leadership Confer-ences, as well as serving as the Kappa Psi Fraternity events organizer and as a Lutheran Church Mentor.

Shannon Sullivan from Butte, Mont., and Marisa Griffith from Grass Range, Mont., each received a $500 Montana Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Com-mittee Scholarship. Sullivan will be working towards a degree in elementary education at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Along with outstanding scholastic achievement and being secretary of the Science National Honor Society, Sullivan has served as a Special Olympics volunteer and has been involved with the Meaderville Restoration project, in the Adopt a Grandparent program and with Special Riders.

  

Griffith graduated from Grass Range High School and plans to attend Dickin-son State University where she will study writing and journalism. She has had outstanding grades and has served on the student council, as state officer on the Family, Career and Community Leaders of Amer-ican (FCCLA) and as FFCLA district treasurer. Her community activities in-cluded organizing a food drive, putting together Christmas stocking for soldiers in Baghdad and being assistant junior high volleyball coach.

Heidi Grove was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in the Farm Bureau/Dodge 2007 FFA Scholarship for Farm Bureau Families.
  

The Hobson, Mont., High School graduate plans to attend Montana Tech in Butte, majoring in business information technology. She has been actively involved in FFA throughout high school and has always lived and worked on the family farm.

Southwest Counties Farm Bureau awarded two $500 scholarships - one to Katherine Keyes of Wisdom, Mont., and the other to Shannon Sullivan, who also won the MFB Women's Leadership Com-mittee scholarship.

Rosebud-Treasure County Farm Bureau awarded a $300 scholarship to Aisling Pitt. Pitt is a graduate of Colstrip, Mont., High School and has been a member of BPA for four years.

As one of eight top achievers in the state, she will received an Ambassador Torch Award in May in New York City at the National Leadership Conference. She plans to attend Weber State University where she will major in psychology.

Tammy Burt, a senior at Belgrade, Mont., high school, is the 2007 winner of the Gallatin County Farm Bureau Scholar-ship. Burt will receive $500 to help with her future education. She plans to enroll at Brigham Young University in math education while continuing in the music program. In addition to maintaining a near-perfect grade point average, Burt has been active in band, choir and flute choir throughout high school. She played freshman volleyball.

Cascade County Farm Bureau awarded a $500 scholarship to Travis Gasvoda of Fairfield, Mont. He will be attending Montana State University-Northern in Havre, Mont. pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.

Richland County Farm Bureau presented its $500 scholarship to Mykel Ler, the daughter of Brian and Denice Ler of Sidney, Mont.

Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau presented their $500 scholarship to April Mack.

McCone County Farm Bureau awarded two $250 scholarships - Jay Trotter, Richey, Mont., high school graduate is planning to attend Montana State Univer-sity. He is the son of Mike & Karen Trotter of Richey. Lee Jensen of Circle, Mont., also received a Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau scholarship. He is also planning to attend Montana State University, and is the son of Neil and Ellen Jensen. Both students have been officers and are very active and successful in the Richey FFA chapter.

Lewis and Clark County Farm Bureau gave a $500 scholarship to Sierra Zimmer-man who plans to attend MSU-Bozeman where she'll study pre-med.
