The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, better known as NASCAR, often brags that it’s the only sport in the world to begin every new season with its all-star game, the year’s biggest, richest race, the Daytona 500.
The boy was restless. They had been driving for what seemed like an eternity, and before that, they had spent the day in two separate airports. When they landed in Billings, the boy had been relieved to finally reach Montana, but he hadn’t realized how far from their final destination they still were.
When I was about 10 years old, a guy showed up at our place with an interesting story. As he leaned over the hood of his old pickup, he spun an intriguing tale of a robbery from back in the Wild West days and of a huge stash of gold bullion that had been buried.
Although March 17 is Saint Patrick’s Day and one thinks of corned beef and cabbage, two dear deceased friends come to my mind for that day. Both were very Irish and the day was an important one to them. Corned beef and cabbage was not the star on their menu, but pasties. Pasties were thought to originate in Cornwall, but may also have been brought by the Vikings when they invaded those areas hundreds of years ago. They are still are very popular today. Unfortunately I never got my one friend’s recipe for pasties. She would make them by the dozens.
Little things seem to be noisy.
